If we consider a bike, we have a fuel tank in front of it. If we consider a car, the fuel tank is present at the back side of the car.
But do you think any day where the fuel is stored in aeroplane?
If the passengers sits inside the aeroplane then where is the fuel tank ?
Whether center of gravity has any role in deciding the location of the fuel tank in aeroplane ?
An airplane is a flying machine used as a vehicle to transport hundreds of people. For an airplane to fly, it needs fuel, a source of energy to fly.
The fuel tank is stored in the wings of the airplane.
Are you shocked?
You may think that turbines are already in the wings of the airplane, then how they fill thousands of liters of fuel. It’s a good question.
The turbine is located below the wings of the airplane but inside the wings, it has a huge capacity to store 2 lakh to 3 lakh liters of fuel.
What is the role of the center of gravity?
If we consider a seesaw, it has two sides and a center point. Each person sits on both seats. If the weight of the two persons are equal the seesaw will be exactly horizontal.
If one person tries to push downward the other person can go up. This causes an imbalanced condition. In the same way, if we consider an airplane, if the fuel tank is located in the back portion of the airplane instead of the wings, what will happen?
Due to the weight of the fuel, the plane will not take off from land easily. Also, while flying, the volume of fuel will decrease due to the functioning of the turbine.
If the fuel tank is located around the front portion, the airplane cannot balance itself to fly in the correct direction so it’s a big problem.
So fuel tank is located in the wings of the airplane. If the airplane fuel decreases while flying, there will be a mechanism in which the fuel goes into the engine in a balanced amount from both of the wings.
By doing so, the airplane can balance itself and fly smoothly.
An interesting fact is that an airplane consumes 1 liter of fuel in 1 second.
